Pause and Resume an Agent's Run From the Desktop App
The desktop app's Pause button now actually works — pausing keeps an agent's progress safely intact, and Resume carries on exactly where it left off.
Summary
You can now genuinely pause an agent's run from the desktop app and pick it back up later, without losing any of its progress. Pausing stops the agent but keeps its work exactly as it was; Resume continues from that same point, even if you've closed and reopened the app in between.
What You Gain
Previously, there wasn't a reliable way to step away from a long-running agent task and come back to it without starting over or letting it keep consuming time on something you weren't ready to continue. Stopping a run meant losing its progress; letting it keep running meant it occupied one of the agent's active task slots the whole time.
Now, picture an agent deep into a complex task when you need to redirect its attention elsewhere: click Pause, and its in-progress copy of the project — including any unfinished changes — is kept safely on your machine, even if you quit the app entirely. When you're ready, Resume picks the work back up from exactly where it stopped. Agents that support ongoing conversations remember what they were doing; others start a fresh conversation pointed at the saved work. And because a paused run doesn't count against the agent's active workload, it's free to pick up other tasks meanwhile.
How It Works
- Nothing is lost on pause. The run's own copy of the project, with any unfinished changes, is kept on disk even if you quit the app.
- Continuity where it matters. Agents that support ongoing conversations continue their own saved conversation; other agents start fresh but build on the kept work.
- Frees up the agent. A paused run doesn't count toward the agent's active workload, so it can take on other tasks while paused.
- Stop acts on what you're viewing, rather than whichever run happens to be first in a list, and also works from the web app.
- Runs that edit your project folder directly can't be paused — the app tells you why if you try.
Where to Find It
Find Pause and Resume on the Tasks page in the desktop app, next to any agent run on your own machine.
