Agents Now See And Close Out Task Checklists
Agents working on a task now see its checklist from the start and are required to check items off before they report the work done.
Summary
When a task has a checklist, the agent working on it now sees every item from the moment it starts, and is required to work through the checklist and mark items off before reporting the task finished. Checklists you rely on to track the small steps of a task are now something agents actually act on, not just something you have to tick off by hand afterward.
What You Gain
Before this, a checklist on a task was something mainly you could see — the agent working on the task didn't reliably know it existed, so items could stay unchecked even once every piece of work was actually done. You'd come back to a finished task, look at the checklist, and find it hadn't moved at all, even though the comments and the pull request showed the work was complete. That meant going through tasks yourself to tick items off, or trusting that "finished" really meant everything on the list was covered.
Now the agent receives the checklist up front, and working through it is part of how it finishes the task — so by the time you read the result, the checklist already shows what's done.
How It Works
- Checklists are visible from the start of a run. An agent beginning work on a task now receives the task's checklist along with the rest of the task's details.
- Closing out the checklist is a required step before finishing. Going through the checklist and marking items complete is now part of an agent's standard wrap-up routine, not an easy-to-miss extra instruction.
- Works the same everywhere an agent completes a task — a single task or the last step of a larger piece of work follows the same rule.
- Nothing changes in how you create or edit a checklist. You add and edit checklist items exactly as before; the difference is only in what an agent does with them before it's done.
Where to Find It
This applies automatically to every task with a checklist, on every project — there's nothing to turn on. Add or edit a checklist from any task's detail view, same as always.
