See Exactly Which Effigate Version Each Agent Is Running

Every agent, machine, and task run now shows exactly which version of Effigate Command Center it's using, so you can trace a problem to the build that caused it.

Summary

There was previously no reliable way to tell which version of Effigate Command Center a given agent, or the machine it runs on, was actually using — especially for the desktop app, which never reported its version at all. That's now visible everywhere it matters: on your agents, your machines, and every task's own run history.

What You Gain

Before this, the version information shown for a machine running agents reflected whatever program happened to start it, not necessarily the actual app doing the work — and the desktop app specifically never reported a version at all, so every machine running it showed up as unknown. There was also no way to tell a machine running the desktop app apart from one running the standalone command-line tool. If an agent behaved unexpectedly, there was no reliable way to confirm exactly which build it ran on.

Now both the desktop app and the command-line tool report their own version clearly, and because the desktop app bundles the command-line tool inside it, a desktop machine shows both numbers — which don't always have to match, since the two are released independently.

How It Works

  • Your Agents list shows the Effigate build behind each agent, right under its machine name.
  • Your Runtimes page, and each machine's own page, show both version numbers where relevant.
  • Every task's run history records the exact versions used for that run, so a problem can always be traced back to the build that caused it.
  • A machine that hasn't restarted since this update simply shows "version not reported," so it's clear it needs an update rather than looking broken.

Where to Find It

Restart your desktop app or command-line daemon to start reporting your version — the display itself works automatically as soon as that's done.
