What You Gain
Before this, leaving a quick comment on a task you weren't assigned to could be blocked until you claimed it — awkward for a manager or teammate who just wants to weigh in. And a long comment thread only ever read in one order, whether or not that suited you.

Comment on any task you have access to, claimed or not; choose how the thread sorts from the comment view.
