Desktop App Update Errors Now Explain What Happened
When a desktop app update can't install, the app now explains why instead of silently doing nothing when you click Restart to update.
Summary
On some Mac systems, the desktop app could claim an update was ready to install, only for "Restart to update" to silently do nothing. The app now explains exactly what went wrong and lets you try again once it's resolved.
What You Gain
Previously, if an update failed to download or install — for example, because the operating system rejected it for a technical signing reason — the app gave no indication anything was wrong. Clicking the button meant to apply the update simply had no visible effect, leaving you to wonder whether it was working or stuck.
How It Works
- Clear explanations appear in the update banner and in Settings → Software update whenever an update can't be downloaded or installed.
- "Restart to update" shows its progress, displaying "Restarting…" while it works, or the specific reason if the install can't proceed.
- "Try again" re-checks for the update, so a corrected release installs normally once it's available.
Where to Find It
This applies automatically the next time an update is available; check Settings → Software update if you ever see an error.
